Woodside Estate

A 1925 home reimagined for a growing family

Sited in the quintessential California landscape of meadow and oaks, this house underwent a major renovation to create a functional family home for contemporary living. Andrew Mann Architecture transformed the dark living room with a new window wall that brings in ample natural light and provides a strong indoor-outdoor connection. Our sophisticated clients were drawn to global design influences, saturated color and bespoke furniture and luxury lighting. Our interior designers incorporated each of these elements in an intentional way, with the goal of creating a luxurious Woodside home that was distinctive, layered and that felt collected over time. Custom furnishings were a key element of the interior design – from the bespoke banquette in the living room, a dramatic architectural bed in the primary bedroom to the intricately designed built-ins in the open plan family room. Merging traditional architecture with contemporary interiors

Our longtime clients engaged Niche Interiors to help reimagine their traditional home in Atherton to better suit their contemporary style. We embarked on a high-end whole home renovation that preserved the original architectural details while mixing in contemporary and modern furnishings; creating a home that felt both sophisticated and comfortable for daily life with young kids. This luxury Atherton home features a mix of custom furniture, hand knotted rugs, luxe fabrics and contemporary artwork from local San Francisco galleries.

A vintage mid-century table is paired with a custom hand-knotted rug and sculptural chairs in the formal dining room. Our Atherton interior designers created an enveloping and moody retreat in the primary bedroom with color drenched wall paneling and moldings and luxurious fabrics. A sculptural, contemporary tub sets the tone in the primary bathroom accented with patterned marble flooring. The library doubles as a luxurious, modern home office with a generous seating area grounded by a bespoke sectional designed to perfectly fit the angled room. The decorative artists at Caroline Lizarraga hand painted the walls in the powder room, tying in the peacock blue tones from the adjoining living room.

Luxe organic interiors soften modern architecture

The architectural design of this modern Hillsborough, California home emphasizes a horizontal, open plan with large, spacious living areas. Our creative team curated the interior design to harmonize with the clean-lined architecture and restrained material palette, balancing precision and warmth to create a true example of luxury California modern interiors — introducing organic elements, luxe finishes, and contemporary artwork to the home.

The formal living room exemplifies luxe organic modernism through its balance of natural materials, sculptural forms, and refined restraint. The exposed timber beams and vertical wood screens frame the space with warm, tactile richness, while maintaining a sightline from the living room to the dining room. Bespoke furniture and cabinetry played a key role in this high-end project – from the dramatic, hand-carved bench in the foyer to the hidden bookcase door that was designed to seamlessly integrate into the kitchen cabinetry, separating one wing of the house from another. Niche Interiors collaborated with fabricators and artisans that we have long standing relationships with to execute complex, customized designs such as the intricate hand painted walls in the primary bedroom and a sinuous, hand sculpted rug in the foyer.
