getting creative with custom furniture

We are excited to share photos of two of our latest interior design projects in San Francisco! While each home differed in size and style, both projects challenged us to flex our problem-solving muscles to create customized furniture solutions for our Bay Area clients. Every available inch is maximized and individual client requests considered when we design bespoke furniture. Take a peek inside our design process for developing custom furniture for our California projects!

making awkward spaces feel intentional

Custom furniture is a fantastic way of turning a design limitation into a design feature! The primary bedroom in our Noe Valley, San Francisco project had a tight niche where the bed needed to be placed. Instead of squeezing in a freestanding bed and nightstands, we designed an integrated bed with floating walnut nightstands – a seamless solution that becomes the focal point of the room.

SCALE + PROPORTION

Standard dining tables come in limited sizes and with minimal options for leg placement, which can make tucking chairs almost impossible. Larger tables from retail outlets tend to have bulkier proportions and can overwhelm a space.

We designed this FSC certified walnut dining table with our local San Francisco woodworker to provide enough seating for large family dinners. The angled leg detail maintains a lightweight feel that blends with the home’s mid-century style.

UTILIZING EVERY INCH

High on our client’s priority list for their pied-à-terre in San Francisco was a king-sized bed in their petite master bedroom. We embraced this challenge by opting for a wall-mounted headboard and small, cantilevered nightstands to maximize every inch. Dramatic wall sconces were installed to provide bedside lighting without taking up any additional square footage.
