When our longtime San Francisco client purchased a vacation home at the exclusive Yellowstone Club in Montana we couldn’t wait to customize the 7,000 square foot home for their cosmopolitan family. The interior design scheme layers in sophisticated contemporary furnishings in saturated jewel tones with playful patterns, hand-painted wall treatments and statement lighting for a stylish (but not too serious) mountain retreat. Sculptural emerald green sofas flank the fireplace in the formal living room, with walnut, steel and resin coffee tables sitting on an oversized wool rug with a delicate organic pattern. An abstract landscape painting by Melissa Dickenson sits above the granite fireplace. The warm, neutral palette continues in the adjoining dining room which features a walnut table with brass inlay and a striking Kinesis chandelier by Matthew Fairbank. A large scale landscape drawing by Mila Libman fills the back wall, reinforcing a connection with the forest outside the windows. Contemporary dining chairs are upholstered in a small scale pattern with a neutral flecked rug underfoot.
Hand-painted walls by San Francisco decorative artist Caroline Lizarraga serve as the backdrop in the luxe primary bedroom which is outfitted with a custom channel tufted bed, contemporary lighting and stunning silk patterned rug. The home office also features Caroline’s artistry, with bold blue walls painted with a delicate line work motif. A lacquer sideboard provides storage and two walnut desks are oriented to face one another to provide work spaces for both the husband and wife. The lower level media room features a custom modular sectional sofa which provides flexible lounging for movie watching and playing games. Intricate thread art pieces by Bumin Kim invite a closer look. A sculptural Vladimir Kagan swivel chair brings a punch of color to the corner of the room.
Our interior designers optimized the home to accommodate frequent houseguests – the “family” guest room features a custom headboard with two queen beds, as well as a sleeper sofa opposite. A simple, modern chandelier takes advantage of the dramatic ceiling height. We collaborated with our woodworker to design bespoke bunk beds in the kids bedroom with integrated lighting and cubbies for book storage.
