Built in the 1920s, this Spanish Revival residence sits among the grand historic homes that define Pacific Heights — one of San Francisco’s most storied and sought-after neighborhoods for luxury interior design. The 7,000 square foot home has been thoughtfully renovated to meet the demands of contemporary luxury living while honoring its architectural pedigree. As a Pacific Heights interior designer with deep experience balancing historic character and modern function, Niche Interiors reimagined the interior for a young, growing family — preserving the traditional facade while transforming the interior into open, light-filled rooms designed for modern family life. Where traditional Spanish Revival homes typically feature compartmentalized rooms and intimate spaces, this iteration opens up the main floor into a great room concept with a state-of-the-art kitchen finished in custom walnut cabinetry, high-end European appliances, and direct access to Bay and Alcatraz views.
The primary bedroom embodies serene contemporary luxury, where a carefully curated palette of soft blues, warm neutrals, and subtle textures creates a calming retreat that maximizes the spectacular San Francisco Bay views. The floor-to-ceiling windows frame the cityscape, while elegant drapery in coordinating gray wool adds privacy without sacrificing the room’s connection to the outdoors. Grasscloth wallcovering wraps the space in organic texture, catching light throughout the day and adding texture that prevents the cool color palette from feeling sterile. The plush silk area rug grounds the seating area and softens the room, while a mid-century inspired armchair by Ralph Pucci and custom ottoman provide a reading nook in the corner.
Our Pacific Heights interior designers created a contemporary formal living room with a blend of modern furniture, luxe fabrics and lacquer and brass finishes. Niche Interiors curated contemporary artwork throughout the home from local and international galleries, including Dolby Chadwick Gallery where we commissioned a stunning piece by James Kennedy for the living room. A hand-knotted wool and silk area rug ground the space, with a tailored, modern Holly Hunt sofa and Christian Liaigre armchairs opposite.
The adjacent formal dining room exemplifies contemporary luxury through its balance of texture, warmth, and sculptural design. The dramatic wall treatment in deep charcoal creates an enveloping backdrop that adds sophisticated depth without overwhelming the space, while the clean-lined modern chandelier with brass accents provides both functional lighting and a striking focal point that draws the eye upward. The custom walnut dining table grounds the room with organic warmth, its book-matched wood grain offering natural beauty that contrasts against the ivory upholstered dining chairs. Natural light floods in through overhead skylights, preventing the dark walls from feeling heavy while highlighting the room’s luxurious materials.
