Mixing metal hardware and accents was once considered a design faux pas, but those days are long gone. We’ve seen some of our favorite jewelry designers pair yellow and white gold, so why not carry this into our homes? With intentional mixing and matching of complementary metals, any room can shine brightly.
Mix metals in the same color family. Above a copper side table blends beautifully with antiqued gold accents.
A little goes a long way: Throw in small touches of various metals. This glass table lamp with subtle chrome accents doesn’t outshine the focal point of the vignette, a brushed gold starburst mirror.
Choose a dominant metal. The stainless steel hood and brushed nickel fixtures read as neutrals, allowing the brass pendant lights to take center stage.

Love those photos. I think as you say, the key is to mix complementary metals and the results can be highly satisfactory. Copper and gold blends particularly well.
